There are various types of medicines available like infusion pump for the administration of drugs, clinical kits for the examination of patients, clinical monitors for the measurement of vital signs and electrocardiograph for the monitoring of blood pressure. There are also several medical devices used in medicine. For example, the electrotherapy that involves the use of electric current for killing bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc; the endoscope that is a tube with a small scope for examining various abnormalities and the catheter that is inserted into the blood stream to draw samples; the insulin pump that injects insulin into the patient’s body through the vein; dialysis machines that use dialysis tubing to filter the blood; ultrasound that uses high-frequency sound waves to do cosmetic or reconstructive work; and even surgical devices that are used in the removal of abnormal tissues or organs.
The advancement of technology has paved the way to medicine’s development. One can find various health products being developed today. These are often more effective than those used in the past because of modern research and technology e.g. molecular biology and genetic engineering.
Clinical Medicine:
In applied science, there is another branch known as clinical medicine, which is a part of the science of medicine. The objective of this branch is to provide evidence-based practice, enabling the community to apply knowledge and make improvements in the health of the general public. This is done by collaborating with experts from other disciplines who have expertise in the relevant field. This collaboration includes expert from the scientific community, such as physicians, epidemiologists, physicians, nurses, and pharmacists.
Traditional medicine continues to evolve as we move into the modern age. In many cases, a new branch of medicine has replaced the traditional practice. In most cases, the function of traditional medicine is to prevent and cure disease, while incorporating scientific principles and research findings to improve the treatment of diseases. With advances in modern medicine such as genetics, molecular biology, computer science, and pharmacology, the future of traditional medicine appears to be bleak. However, if people continue to embrace traditional medicine, it will become more widely accepted as an essential element of the healthcare system.
