Breast augmentation surgery continues to be one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the world, with countless women choosing to enhance the shape or size of their breasts. For some women, it’s as simple as not being completely satisfied with the size of their breasts. For others, it’s because they want to restore their breasts to their former glory after having children.

Making the decision to schedule a consultation about breast augmentation surgery can sometimes feel quite daunting.

If you’ve been considering breast implants for a while, chances are you’ve already spent time thinking about why you want the surgery and you know what you want your new breasts to look like. Now you need to take the next steps and schedule a consultation so that you can go ahead with the surgery.

3 Things to consider before your breast implant surgery

Before you go ahead and schedule your surgery, here are a few things to think about to prepare for your surgery and to ensure a more successful outcome.

Who will be your surgeon?

This is probably the single most important decision you will make in the breast augmentation process. It’s important to consider more than one surgeon before you decide to schedule your procedure to be sure that you’re making the best possible choice. Your chosen surgeon should be board-certified, work from an approved facility and have enough experience with breast augmentation to be able to give you the results you want. Don’t hesitate to ask as many questions as you need to be comfortable with your chosen surgeon. Asking to look at before and after photos of past procedures is also a good idea.

Breast implant size and shape

Advances in breast implants have provided women with options that look more natural and pose less of a risk. As you prepare for your breast augmentation surgery, start getting an idea of the cup size that you’re looking to achieve so that you can discuss it with your surgeon during your consultation. Dr Peter Laniewski is a breast implants specialist from Sydney and will also take you through the different types of implants and the pros and cons of each during your consultation. You should also keep your current weight and body shape in mind when choosing an implant size and shape.

The recovery period

Before you schedule your breast augmentation procedure, make sure that you’re prepared to spend at least a week at home. You will also need to have someone who can assist you at home, particularly if you have young children, and transport you to and from your surgery. If you want an even more detailed idea of what you can expect during your recovery process so that you can better prepare, speak to your surgeon so that you fully understand the dos and don’ts and what you will and won’t be able to do.

Now that you know what you will need to consider before your surgery, you can schedule your consultation and prepare to enjoy your new body shape.
