1. WHAT IS HOLISTIC DENTISTRY?

Holistic dentistry is an approach that views the body as interconnected, meaning every part-including your teeth-can affect overall health and vitality. Unlike traditional dental care, holistic dentists look beyond just oral health when treating patients. They focus on identifying the root causes behind dental issues rather than simply managing the symptoms. By addressing underlying problems, this approach aims to prevent future complications while ensuring treatments do not negatively impact overall well-being. Holistic dentistry is also known as biological dentistry or integrative dentistry, and many people seek a holistic dentist for a more comprehensive and natural approach to oral care.

2. WHY HOLISTIC DENTISTRY IS GOOD FOR YOUR OVERALL HEALTH

Individuals will be introduced to a different kind of oral health experience if they visit a holistic dentistry practice. A holistic practitioner considers various factors, observes your overall well-being, and addresses your emotional and physical needs that might occur during the treatment. The perspective of a holistic dentist extends to treatment or prevention of dental disease (broad). For a great quality of life, a balance is created within your mouth and the rest of your body. A thorough discussion and examination of any ongoing or concerning health issue or medical condition will be involved in your consultation with a holistic dentist.

3. HOW A HOLISTIC DENTIST DIFFERS FROM A CONVENTIONAL DENTIST?

3.1 TEETH CLEANING

To clean teeth, a conventional dentist uses or starts with an ultrasonic instrument that utilises tap water and is most likely contaminated with a polish paste that has artificial dyes , fluoride, and flavouringsA holistic dentist also uses similar methods in a similar way, but keeps in mind dental hygiene and involves water infused with essential oils.

3.2 XRAYS

Conventional dentists offer a full-mouth series, x-rays and bite-wings. They also use advanced technology as well. What sets a holistic dentist is that apart from using xrays they also help to elimintae potential negative effects that might harm the body due to the usage of supplements at the tiem of exposure to the radiation to bind the free radicals that are formed.

3.3 FILLINGS

Teeth is filled with porcelain, silver amalgam, and gold, or even by materials called composite resin fillings by a conventional dentist and only 50% of American dentists practice mercury-free dentistry, but not everyone can practice without proper training and protocol. But holistic dentists provide fillings with the practice of mercury-free dentistry. Patients will not be exposed to toxins because they provide amalgam-free fillings that are BPA, Bis-GMA, and fluoride-free.

3.4 GUM DISEASE

Gum disease is treated by a conventional dentist through routine cleanings, root planning, antibiotic medications, and scaling. For advanced cases of gum disease called periodontitis, periodontists treat it as they are specialised in it instead of general dentists. Highly effective laser, ozone treatments, and iodine irrigation systems are used by a holistic dentist to treat gum disease. In the first phase, the causal factor is determined.
